Therapeutic Drum Circle in Lincoln City, OR

Rhythm Connections Therapeutic Drum Circles of Lincoln County will present a free therapeutic drum circle from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at Lincoln City Rehabilitation Center, 3011 NE 28th St. Rhythm Connections coordinator Chandler Davis said the drum circle is the first that the one-year-old nonprofit organization has scheduled in Lincoln City.

"We have been doing a monthly drum circle for the folks at the rehabilitation center in Newport for almost a year, with great success," Davis said. "And it is a chance for folks who are unable to get out into the community, and who may have limited social interaction, to participate in a live event."

Davis, a retired behavioral health counselor and the coordinator of the Newport Community Drum Circle, said people of all ages can participate in drum circles.

"No musical experience is required, and tons of scientific research over the past decade has shown that the interactive experience of group drumming helps to relieve stress and anxiety, boost self esteem, enhance communications, provide healthful exercise, help coordination, boost the spirits, facilitate essential play, and even improve immune system functioning," he said. Email: chandler@chandlerdavis.com
