Drums Not Guns is a non-profit membership organization devoted to promoting peace and non-violence through the power of percussion; to provide at-risk youth with creative ways to diffuse anger and re-channel negative energy; and to promote team spirit, self-esteem and self-expression through "Instruments of Mass Percussion." They believe that when people come together to enjoy and play music, greater communication and understanding are fostered and we are reminded of our common humanity and inter-reliance. Research has demonstrated that group drumming alleviates self-centeredness, isolation, and alienation, moving people from the fear of self-expression to a more creative state where they can serve as true human resources for both themselves and their communities. Drums Not Guns hosts workshops and community drum circles, and maintains the networking site drums.org.
