Polar Bear Prayer

Winter Solstice 2010

This poem was read beneath the Tree in the plaza of the holy city of Machu Picchu. It was sent forth as a prayer to the Heart of the World. I wrote this invocation to the Polar Bear after receiving the Polar Bear Beat (the rhythm on the soundtrack) as a gift from the Polar Bear Spirit during a spirit flight at a local shamanic drum circle. Each person in our circle received a unique gift and vision. The number of syllables per line resonates the poem with the Fibonacci series that is based upon the Golden Ratio. This sacred mathematical relationship was used by the ancient Andean people as a calculating device and was known as the Yupana. By utilizing this numerical cadence, the poem harmonizes with the resonating circle of life as a vibratory wave: 3-5-8-5-3-5-8-5 etc. I am grateful!
