Ancestors Call

Shamanism and music combined thousands of years ago. By observing nature, shamans perceived that the power of sound could be used to help and heal others. The first drums and musical instruments were put to shamanic use, as were many of the early singing traditions. But even without any prior knowledge of shamanism or ancient musical practices, a music listener can experience a holistic connection to the natural world listening to primal music. This certainly proves true with the Tuvan acoustic quartet Huun Huur Tu's latest recording, Ancestors Call. Tuvan music is an artistic expression of the nomads' experience of acoustical immersion in the sounds of their natural environment. Group member, Aleksei Saryglar explains, "The basis of our art is in striving for correct comprehension of nature and music as a creative element. We strive for high quality, putting ourselves into the art." Ancestors Call
